NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH 2014

Each June, the National Safety Council celebrates National Safety Month as a time to bring attention to key safety issues. As you plan your 2014 safety calendar, please join the Council and thousands of organizations across the country to reduce risk of the following safety issues:

Week 1: Prevent prescription drug abuse
Week 2: Stop slips, trips and falls
Week 3: Be aware of your surroundings
Week 4: Put an end to distracted driving
Bonus week: Summer safety
Let’s Celebrate Safety!

Thank you so much for celebrating safety with us this June! As we head into our first week of National Safety Month, here is some helpful information to share on Preventing Prescription Drug Abuse.

Daily Tips

June 2: Lower back pain is commonly treated with prescription painkillers. Maintaining good posture and practicing proper lifting techniques can help prevent this common injury.

June 3: Properly disposing medications will help protect the environment as well as pets, children and anyone who might find medication in your trash.

June 4: If you suspect a coworker is struggling with prescription drug abuse, contact Human Resources or your Employee Assistance Program to take appropriate action.

June 5: Keep medications in their original container and maintain a log of what you’re taking.

June 6: If possible, use the same pharmacy for all your prescriptions. The pharmacist may catch incompatible drug combinations.
