SICK LEAVE

This new law requires that all employers provide a sick leave benefit to all employees who have been employed for at least 30 days. The bill does not take effect until July 1, 2015.The State will be issuing regulations on implementation of this law. There are a number of questions still to be answered. Following are major provisions of the law, as I understand them at this time:

*The law applies to all employers regardless of number of employees;

*All employees are covered, full and part-time;

*Employees accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour for each 30 hours of work;

*Employees are covered after 30 days of employment, and accrue sick leave from  the first day of employment;

*Employees may take sick leave after 90 days of employment;

*Employer may limit use of sick leave to 24 hours or 3 days in each year of employment;

*Employers may cap accrual at 48 hours or 6 days;

*Unused sick leave is carried over from year to year;

*Unused sick leave is not paid out on termination of employment, unless treated as PTO;

*Sick Leave entitlement must be included in the New Hire Notice;
