More than 1 million immigrants are expected to apply for licenses in California. More than 9,300 applicants had appointments at DMV offices across the state for Friday, Jan. 2, another 7,300 were scheduled for Saturday.
Applicants will still have to produce documents proving that they live in California and the licenses are only valid for driving. The biggest change is that applicants will no longer have to provide a social security number.
To meet the crush the DMV in both Stockton and Modesto are offering Saturday hours.
